The funerary complex, which included a Friday (congregational) mosque with Sufi hudur services, has a layout very similar to that of Sultan Qaytbay's mosque.

Here, the dome has carved lozenges in the lower part and a zigzag pattern on the upper section.

It was It was founded during the caliphate of al-Mustansir, a time of great political and spiritual crises for the Fatimid regime. It was the first mosque with an entrance that is not on an axis with the qibla wall an it was also the first mosque in Cairo to have a decorated stone facade.
