Where It All Started
” The Belize Audubon Society (BAS) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the sustainable management of Belize’s natural resources through leadership and strategic partnerships with stakeholders in order to create a balance between people and the environment. The Society was formed in 1969 as a foreign chapter of the Florida Audubon Society and in 1973 became a completely independent organization“
BAS is the longest standing conservation NGO in Belize charged with co-managing seven of Belize’s most biologically and topographically diverse protected areas.

Testimonials
I loved being part of the BAS team because they were very welcoming and clearly wanted me to achieve as much as I could whilst on placement. The BAS was a wonderful organisation for me to intern for and I would not hesitate to go and intern for them again.

I first encountered Half Moon Caye on a scuba diving day trip. I stood among the nesting red footed boobies. I dove to the renowned Half Moon Caye Wall. I was enchanted. The following year my wife and I returned to stay in the rustic resort of Island Expeditions. I was intrigued to learn from the BAS lecture that they encourage volunteers. Perhaps I could give something back to paradise.

Being an active member of the Belize Audubon Society has been very rewarding. I've also been given the opportunity to speak to many young people, in hopes of inspiring them to be birders. In the end they're protecting these sites for us and our children and you can be a part of it too.

in partnership with the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has worked with Belize Audubon Society to help enhance management of the Blue Hole and Half Moon Caye Natural Monuments.
