‘Eventful’ is probably also a fitting description of the first few months in Düsseldorf. In February, Düsseldorf’s famous Kunstakademie (Art Academy) will again let you take a look behind the scenes – quite literally, as it were – to meet the “stars” of tomorrow. With the Carnival season, musical highlights and extraordinary sports events ahead of us, there’s plenty to be excited about in 2012. We look forward to your visit.

CARNIVAL


There is no stopping the Rhine metropolis in the fifth season. With scores of laughter, dancing, kissing, linking arms and swaying to the music up until Rosenmontag (Rose Monday, 20 February), this year’s carnival motto “Hütt dommer dröwer lache” (which translates as “Today we laugh at that”) has long since been set. Hape Kerkeling’s - Kein Pardon


This musical is a humorous satire about the usual TV madness as seen in a roughshod, but strangely endearing family from the Ruhr areas. Peter Schlönzke – son, grandson and sandwich deliverer by profession – works in the family business, but has one great passion: television. He has watched his favourite show, “Humour knows no boundaries”, from early childhood. Follow him on the stage of Düsseldorf’s Capitol Theater and see how he manages to become the show’s presenter to end up as a hailed star in the glamour world…more


Elvis Museum


On 1 December 2011, the Elvis Museum Düsseldorf opened its doors to the world’s largest private collection of items owned by the King of Rock'n'Roll from the 50s, 60s and 70s outside the USA. Fans can admire original Elvis Presley exhibits that have never before been shown to the public…more


Düsseldorf all-inclusive


This two-hour tour will give you an idea of the rich and diverse history of Düsseldorf and its formidable development. The CityTour bus will take you to all the main attractions in the city. The Flamenco Festival is hailed the biggest event outside of Spain. From 31 March to 9 April it will see the crème de la crème of flamenco take to the stage at the “tanzhaus nrw”. EL GRECO AND THE MODERN AGE



From 28 April to 12 August, the Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf will host the first major El Greco exhibition in Germany. Exhibits include a selection of around 40 works by El Greco from major European and American museums together with some 100 works by modern artists influenced by him...more


Fresh Widow. Window paintings since Matisse and Duchamp.

In the early 20th century, artists such as Robert Delaunay, Henri Matisse, and René Magritte began to exploit the isolated window as a pictorial motif in order to assert painting’s freedom from representational functions while questioning inherited norms. From 31 March to 12 August, the K20 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen at Grabbeplatz will display selected paintings, sculptures and photographs dating from 1912 to 2012.
