The Al Azhar Mosque-Cairo-Egypt Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: The Qaitbay Entrance was built in 1469 and has a minaret built atop. Inside is a large courtyard surrounded with porticos supported by over three hundred marble columns of ancient origin. To the east is the prayer hall which is larger than the courtyard and has several rows of columns.

The Blue Mosque-Cairo-Egypt Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: The name "Blue Mosque" for the Aqsunqur Mosque derives from its floral tile work on the qibla wall, tiled from floor to ceiling in beautiful blue colored tiles in the style of ceramics manufacture in Iznik in Turkey, although the quality suggests they are provincial imitations possibly from Damascus.

The Funerary Complex of Al Ghuri-Cairo-Egypt Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: Sultan Qansuh al-Ghuri, the next to last Mamluk sultan, built his funerary complex between 1503 and 1504 in the Fahhamin quarter on al-Muizz street in Islamic Cairo. The western side includes a Friday (congregational) madrasa-mosque built on the qa'a plan.
